Release of Study Result on Protective Effect of PVC Sidings against Salt Damage

Device under exposure
The Architectural Institute of Japan was held in Toyama for three days from September 9, 2010. The experimental result on protection effect of PVC sidings against salt damage was released. The experiment is ongoing in Okinawa. The analysis of the 8-month-test specimens released at this academic meeting is as follows:

(1) Neutralization has not been confirmed during 8-month-
     exposure.
(2) Surface covering of PVC siding materials blocks salt floating in the air.
(3) Without surface covering, around 22% of the amount of salt in the air penetrates into the
     concrete.
